I know there are some that find my nickname for Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to be extreme or childish. Yet I think it summarises quickly and neatly the sense that he's driven to power solely by ego and vainglory. That he is not driven to power to help others or to solve societal problems, but that he's been the ultimate shoe shiner without a moral compass climbing the political ladder for years in Hong Kong indiscriminately under both the British and Communist Chinese.
Checking in with former Hong Kong resident, now in Manila, Madame Chiang spots a Time interview with the ultimate shoe shiner from before the inexplicable tears at the announcement of his winning the rigged Chief Executive non-election.
TIME: You worked a long time with the British, and now with the Chinese. What's the difference?
TSANG: We are a lot freer now.
...
As for national defense, we have got the People's Liberation Army here. They are much more well-behaved and disciplined than their British counterparts before. Previously, every week, there would be brawls.
Donald Tsang Yam-kuen is making James Tien Pei-chun and Ma Lik look like amateur shoe shiners by repeating these old chestnuts after having been Knighted by the Queen. Go read the rest...
And not caught by Madame Chiang is this outright lie by Donald Tsang Yam-kuen.
In 2005 I tried to [implement] constitutional reform. I did not succeed, not because people didn't want it. People wanted it; there was majority support for it. But there were some bloody-minded politicians who wouldn't allow it through in the Legislative Council—against the people's wishes.
Sorry, the 2005 reforms as proposed DID NOT have majority support for them. No independent public opinion poll at that time supported your claims that your plan had majority support. There allegedly was a poll by the Central Policy Unit (aka Push Polls R Us), but Donald Tsang refused to allow the poll or the data to be released publicly.
